Virtual WatchTower Network

VWT Community

The project adopts a community-driven approach engaging a diverse set of project partners to collaboratively engage in defining and validating the networked-based and distributed solution for managing supply chain disruptions. The initiating community is highly engaged in co-creating a solution and we welcome anybody else to apply below to join the community.

VWT the Vision

The VWT solution improves companies’ decision-making capabilities by filling a gap in cross-industry collaboration and intelligence building for better global supply chain and disruption management. The global VWT connects local VWTs of its diverse group of participants across the international supply chain community in a system-of-systems setup sharing, aggregating, and computing data to help the participating companies to build collective intelligence and collaborate when needed across global supply and demand networks.

Concept components

VWT Concept

The virtual watch tower (VWT) is a networked system-of-systems solution built, used, and governed by a community connected through a digital middleware linking the “VWTs” of the different community members to drive collective intelligence and collaboration across global supply chain networks for better supply chain risk and disruption management. Our goal is that the VWT project turns into a tool for the entire supply chain industry with an ever-growing community.

VWT Architecture

The VWT network project adopts a layered methodology for the establishment of a system- of-systems approach for a networked virtual watch tower setting. Collaboration will occur on all levels, i.e., data sharing, network of VWTs, and applications and services.

VWT MetroMap

The data sharing logic in multi-organisational settings, as in all collaborative decision making (CDM) solutions, is visualized in a MetroMap. The MetroMap highlights actor roles involved, key coordination points where actors are dependent on each other’s time stamp data on plans, estimates and progress of realization. In between these coordination points are the states marking the way, and determining the reliability of reaching a coordination point.
